Dugway Proving Ground is seeking applicants for a Chemist GS-1320-12/13 with laboratory experience dealing with protective systems, chemical agent detectors, contamination avoidance and environmental issues to work for the Chemical Test Division, Chemical Science Branch for Dugway Proving Ground, UT. Dugway Proving Ground is approximately 50 minutes from Tooele, Utah, and 90 minute drive from Salt Lake City, Utah. This position is being advertised at both the GS-12 and GS-13 levels. If selected at the GS-12 level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next level once all conditions for advancement have been met. This includes, but is not limited to: 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level, meeting Time-in-Grade, and having an acceptable work performance. Management may select from any level for which this position is advertised and for which the applicant is qualified. This position may also be filled via a reassignment for current, permanent Federal Army Civilians or via a Transfer for current, permanent DoD civilians.
Salary on the announcement depicts the GS-12 step 1 through GS-13 step 10 annual salary which includes locality pay.

Job Responsibilities
Serves as senior test support project scientist/manager who directs and performs test support activities within the Chemical Test Division. These activities include laboratory, chamber, and field regulatory and process or test support activities using a variety of techniques (GC, GC/MSD, LC/MS, vapor generation, aerosol generation, decontamination, vapor monitoring etc.). Responsible for development of new techniques and processes to increase the capability of the Science Branch and the Division in Laboratory scale tests. In addition to the test conduct activities themselves, the incumbent will also be responsible for maintaining support activities such as SOP and new method development. Work will involve both chemical warfare agents and simulants as appropriate. If selected at the GS-12 level, duties will be developmental in nature until you reach the full performance of the position.
Job Qualification
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g.., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. For qualifications determinations your resume must contain hour worked per week and the dates of employment (i.e., HRS per week and the month/year to month/year or month/year to present). If your resume does not contain this information, your application may be marked as incomplete and you many not receive consideration for this position.
Specialized Experience for the GS-12: In order to be found qualified, your resume must reflect one year of specialized experience: 1.Working with chromatography, mass spectroscopy, and infrared spectroscopy as applied to laboratory test fixture development and analytical method development. 2. Experience with chemical warfare agents or toxic industrial chemicals. This definition of specialized experience is typical of the work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
Specialized Experience for the GS-13: In order to be found qualified, your resume must reflect one year of specialized experience: 1. Experience in laboratory, chamber, or field test support activities using a variety of techniques (vapor generation, aerosol generation, decontamination, vapor monitoring etc.) with chemical warfare agents (CWA) or toxic industrial chemicals (TIC). 2. Experience in method development related to analytical chemistry. 3. Experience working with chemical warfare agents or TICs using sampling technology and laboratory methods of analysis and assay.
Basic Educational Requirement: In addition to the specialized experience mentioned above, the Chemist 1320 series has a basic education requirement that must be met. This requirement can be met in one of two ways:
1.A bachelor’s degree (or higher) in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
OR
2. Through a combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university. Conditions of Employment
- Position requires applicant to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
