Job Summary

The Information Technology (NETWORK/SYSADMIN) positions are located at the U.S. Army Redstone Test Center (RTC), Center Support Directorate (CSD), S6 Division with a duty station at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.  
U.S. Army Redstone Test Center (RTC) participates in an alternate personnel system known as the Acquisition Demonstration Project, AcqDemo, among other features, AcqDemo replaces GS grade levels with occupational families and pay bands.
The NH-03 band is equal to the GS-12 step 1 through GS-13 step 10. However, this position is subject to the NH-03, Non-Supervisory Senior Professional/Evaluator/Test/Analyst control point of the ATEC Control Point Policy $115,074 per year not including locality pay.

Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for Center wide design, implementation, integration, modification, and support of information technology (IT) for the U. S. Army Redstone Test Center (RTC).
  • Experience with network systems administration, software upgrades, Network Security requirements IAW DOD and Army Regulations and overall systems operation for both administrative and the test and evaluation(T&E) networks.
  • Provides technical customer support to all RTC Directorates and Divisions, including the support for RTC distributed networks interconnecting RTC test capabilities with capabilities of other test organizations across the Army and within the DoD.
  • Responsible for analytical and evaluative duties related to computer networking technologies with primary knowledge requirements of information processing methodology, information technology, hardware capabilities, system operations, DoD and Army unique Cybersecurity and contract administration to ensure that IT systems are properly planned, designed, acquired, installed, operated, secured, and maintained.
  • Experience with other entities for IT collaboration; for example contractors and vendor representatives.

Job Qualification

  • Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5CFR 300, Subpart F.
  • Applicants must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service which provided the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position.
  • There is no substitute of education for specialized experience for the GS-13 position.
  • Education:  Education requirements do not apply to this vacancy announcement.

Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate

GS-5 through GS-15 (or equivalent): For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: One year of specialized experience which includes:  
  1. A minimum of 15-years IT administrator experience, AND
  2. Certified at the IAT-II level at a minimum IAW DoDI 8570.01-M
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (NH-02 or GS-11).
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirements using experience alone- no substitution for experience is permitted.
