PLACE OF WORK:

Dugway Proving Ground is seeking applicants for a Data Scientist for Data Sciences Division, Test Design and Analysis Branch the West Desert Test Center at Dugway Proving Ground, UT. Dugway Proving Ground is approximately 50 minutes from Tooele, Utah, and 90-minute drive from Salt Lake City, Utah. This position is being advertised at the GS-7 and GS-9 levels. If selected, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next level once all conditions for advancement have been met. This includes but is not limited to 1 year of specialized experience at the next lower grade level, meeting Time-in-Grade, and having an acceptable work performance. Management may select from any level for which this position is advertised and for which the applicant is qualified. Normal progression is GS-7/9/11/12/13.

This position may also be filled via a reassignment for current, permanent Federal Army Civilians or via a Transfer for current, permanent DoD civilians.

Salary on the announcement depicts the GS-7 step 1 through GS-13 step 10 annual salary.

Job Responsibilities

At the Full Performance level, you will serve as a Data Scientist participating in the conceptual development, design, execution, and evaluation of chemical and biological defense (CBD) test programs. CBD tests embrace military doctrine, concepts, systems, and equipment to be employed in all intensities of warfare. The incumbent may be engaged in several tests simultaneously. Provides technical guidance to test directors and other test team members throughout the organization in the development of test design plans; data collection, reduction, and analysis plans; test methodology; and final report preparation. In addition, the incumbent will leverage data science methodologies, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning algorithms, to advance current test procedures and provide guidance to management on futures advances in the data science field.

Duties are developmental and you will have greater supervision until you reach the full performance of the position.

Specialized Experience

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience for the GS-7: To be found qualified, your resume must reflect one year of specialized experience: 1. Participating in analyzing test data; 2. Reviewing data from multiple systems. Building data visualizations This definition of specialized experience is typical of the work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-5).

OR EDUCATION: One full year of graduate level education.

OR Superior Academic Achievement: Based on a bachelor's degree that is demonstrated through class standing (upper 1/3 of class); grade point average (3.0/4.0 overall or 3.5/4.0 in major), or election to membership in a qualifying national scholastic honor society.

OR COMBINATION: You may qualify on a combination of education and experience, the total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the specialized experience requirement, as well as the percentage of completed education compared to the educational requirement must equal at least 100 percent.

 

Specialized Experience for the GS-9: To be found qualified, your resume must reflect one year of specialized experience: 1. Analyzing and interpreting data modeling, algorithms, and coding data requirements; 2. Analyzing and providing information from multiple systems to prepare data reports. This definition of specialized experience is typical of the work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-7).

 

OR EDUCATION: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or two (2) full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED.

OR COMBINATION: You may qualify on a combination of education and experience. The total percentage of experience at the required grade level compared to the requirement, must equal at least 100 percent. Only graduate level education more than the first 18 semester hours (27 quarter hours) may be combined to be considered for qualifying education. TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
