Job Responsibilities

  • As a project engineer and technical point of contact in the field of telecommunications, is responsible for all aspects of communications electronics systems engineering and support.
  • Coordinates with customers to obtain and evaluate customer requirements and prepares engineering design plans to meet these requirements.
  • Upon approval of the design plans, conducts site surveys, prepares technical drawings, bills of materials, installation plans, project timelines, and cost estimates as required by the tasks.
  • Develops system training plans and system test plans and conducts said training and testing. Position requires the application of knowledge of the principles, techniques, and practices of electronics engineering.
  • Analyzes the assigned test programs and determines the general overall telecommunications systems required for optimum telecommunications support for the test programs.
  • Determines the best testing approach, plans, coordinates, directs, and performs field engineering and laboratory test to determine the accuracy desired and the proper equipment needed to support complex test programs.
  • Performs telecommunications engineering within fixed, mobile, and transportable telecommunications systems, facilities and complexes
  • Performs engineering for telecommunications systems interfacing with other systems or instrumentation sites, which may include radar, optics, telemetry, and microwave radio.
  • Acts as technical expert and interface for projects whose scope necessitates development by other organizations.
  • As tasked by the developing organizations, analyzes and evaluates results of studies, resolves problems, and recommends, as necessary, major design changes or equipment alterations including specific engineering background information.
  • Provides guidance and expertise to other branch personnel in all pertinent aspects of telecommunications, to include both analog and digital communications systems, utilizing automation, remote control, microwave, RF, fiber-optic, and copper-pair.
  • Maintains a current knowledge of research and developmental activities and technological advances involving all areas pertinent to telecommunications, and continually reviews and analyzes methodology to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Utilizes computer skills to aid in the implementation of telecommunication solutions for range customers.
  • Skills include word processing, forms processing, spreadsheets, database management, and computer-aided design used to produce forms, memorandums, system drawings, engineering plans, briefings, and mathematical/engineering analyses.
  • Represents the organization in meetings and conferences with contractors, intra and inter-agency/service activities, and other government agencies.
  • Participates in meetings and conferences for planning purposes with other project engineers, coordinators, and/or contractors, exchanging technical information and coordinating the execution of telecommunications support action.
