Job Summary

  • Aberdeen Test Center (ATC) provides test and test support services for authorized customers within and outside of DoD, including Government and non-Government organizations, domestic and foreign.  Perform comprehensive test and training, both real and simulated, exploit emerging technologies, and develop leading-edge instrumentation and test methodologies.

    PLACE OF WORK: This position is located within the U.S. Army Test & Evaluation Command, Aberdeen Test Center (ATC) within (Various Directorates), Aberdeen, MD.

     

Job Responsibilities

Performs continuing developmental duties and assignments in relation to serving as a trainee requiring a basic working knowledge and application of governing regulatory, procedural, and policy guidance and professional knowledge. Typical assignments at this level include, but are not limited to the following; Accomplishes specific tasks of projects requiring familiarity with and use of a number of standard scientific methods, and practices; adopts practices and techniques to specific situations; adjusts and correlates data into logical results; makes suggestions of the selection and adaptation of scientific alternatives, and once approved, accomplishes the details of the assignment. Follows instructions accomplishing assignments and discusses problems requiring any deviation in methods or techniques with superior.

At the developmental level you will perform continuing developmental duties and assignments in relation to the accomplishment of small or designated portions of larger, complex projects encompassing one of the broad military equipment categories. Reviews appropriate planning documents and standardized procedures, planning the accomplishment of specific assignments in the most efficient and economical manner. Conducts more critical or unusual phases to ensure that safe and appropriate procedures are being employed. Coordinates project with other units within the ATEC. Analyzes technical data including instrumentation readings, calculations, deficiency reports, graphs, and the like, prepared by support personnel.

At the full performance level you will serve as a senior evaluator for the Aberdeen Test Center (ATC) wherein the assigned mission is to conduct and evaluate broad Army equipment categories (i.e., one or more of the following: soldier systems, artillery, small arms, armor, automotive, mines, countermines, demolition, recoilless rifles, mortars, non-lethal weapon systems, and ammunition) to determine whether such materiel is qualified for production and whether US Army standards of quality are being maintained. As such, the incumbent is responsible for independently planning, coordinating and conducting (1) complex research and development of projects requiring substantial modification or adaptation of, or compromise with standard techniques, methods and criteria, and  (2) other difficult projects which include several, and, on occasion, many varied complex features requiring unusual planning, scheduling, coordination, and/or negotiation.

Specialized Experience

In order to qualify, you must meet the basic qualifications/requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Competencies Desired: Data analysis, modeling and simulation, communication (oral/written), problem-solving, conflict resolution, hands-on lab/field experiences, logical/critical thinking, high-level projects, leadership skills. 

GS-07: In addition to basic qualifications, one year of specialized experience which includes 1) Accomplishes specific tasks of projects requiring familiarity with and use of a number of standard scientific and engineering principles, methods, and practices; and 2) Assists higher-grade engineers by accomplishing segments of more complex projects involving new processes, procedures, or lines of approach. 3) Follows instructions to accomplish assignments and discusses any problems that require a deviation in methods or techniques with a supervisor.

Education substitution: 1 year of graduate-level education or superior academic achievement. (GPA of 3.0 or higher)

GS-09: In addition to basic qualifications, one year of specialized experience which includes 1) Obtains or manages the acquisition of test data, verifying their applicability to test criteria and satisfaction of test objectives and the adequacy of test instrumentation; and 2) analyzes test data, deriving conclusions from data, observations made during testing, and any additional technical information relevant to the test project. 3) Participating in process improvements and the development of methodologies.

Education substitution: 2 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master’s degree or master’s or equivalent graduate degree. 

Conditions of Employment
