Serves as a IT Specialist (SYSADMIN) in the S6 Directorate at the U.S. Army Aberdeen Test Center (ATC).
ATC provides test and test support services for authorized customers within and outside of DoD, including Government and non-Government organizations, domestic and foreign. Perform comprehensive test and training, both real and simulated, exploit emerging technologies, and develop leading-edge instrumentation and test methodologies.
PLACE OF WORK: This position is located within the U.S. Army Test & Evaluation Command, Aberdeen Test Center (ATC) within S6 Directorate, Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD.

Job Responsibilities
As a senior systems administrator at Army Testing Command (ATC), applies an extensive knowledge of advanced theories, concepts and principles in the broad field of Information Technology (IT) and related technologies to planning, organization, and development and improvement of test and evaluation systems for all command elements and tenant activities. Evaluates computer hardware and software systems utilizing innovative techniques to determine feasibility and develop standards. Formulates overall system concepts and design of integrated network architectures using hardware, software, and advanced communications (i.e. fiber optics, wireless, satellite, and Ethernet type networks). Provides technical direction, leadership, and vision to team members involved in a broad spectrum of system administration activities. Provides advice on selection of equipment and processes to use; prototyping and testing of security and related systems; and making use of network and computer system hardware and software integration techniques. Contributes to organizational policies regarding management and security of information systems and related supporting devices.
Independently performs daily/weekly/monthly checks and helps troubleshoot any problems found. Monitors systems and takes action as needed to respond to faults.Performs Systems Administration duties in an extensive server environment consisting of Microsoft Windows, LINUX, and Virtual Machine Elastic Sky X integrated (VMWare ESXi) servers. Implements new system hardware and software and develops local operating procedures. Prepares, deploys, and troubleshoots software distribution packages to desktops, laptop, and servers. Provides support to User/Computer/Service accounts. Reviews logs locally and on Security and Information Management (SEIM) tool.
Updates software on all IT hardware, such as but not limited to servers, desktops, and laptops. Installs and configures physical and virtual servers. Performs physical maintenance of all hardware. Maintains backup software and associated maintenance agreement for backups of IT server systems and Storage Area Network (SAN) systems. Participates in cross team groups to plan, implement, and troubleshoot long term projects and upgrades. Independently uses knowledge of computer science techniques and strategies to provide appropriate documentation for all program specification and/or programs by incumbent and collaborate documentation with team members. Independently tests programs for accomplishing their intended purposes, evaluates techniques used, documents inadequacies and monitors the correction of deficiencies. Assists with the deployment of new builds by creating Write after Read (WAR) files and providing deployment documentation. Documents and logs all processes and procedures online that are associated with daily operations. Monitors and ensures logs of error messages. Participate in outages to conduct maintenance/repair/upgrades.
Serves as an Information Technologist Specialist performing work, independently or as a member of a team, in the administration, delivery and support of Information Technology (IT) systems and services. Duties include, but are not limited to, analyzing and diagnosing difficult & complex hardware, software, and systems problems reported by IT users in ATC organizations pertinent to a wide variety of ATC software applications, operating systems and IT equipment. Troubleshoots, investigates and analyzes actual or potential complex problems in system operating system software, applications software interfacing, and/or IT equipment to isolate causes of malfunctions. Evaluates reported problems, develops modifications and procedures to resolve the problems, and initiates corrective action. Utilizes a help desk knowledge database, commercially available technical documents, and past experience in resolving a variety of IT problems, to include probable areas of future change in requirements so as to facilitate subsequent modifications.
Ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of systems, networks, and data through the planning, analysis, implementation, maintenance, and enhancement of information systems security programs, policies, procedures, and tools. Functions commonly performed may include: maintaining compliance to established Army policies and procedures to ensure information systems security, reliability and accessibility to prevent and defend against unauthorized access to systems, networks, and user data. Conducts vulnerability assessments of user system prior to user working off site. Ensures that systems, network, and data users are aware of, understand, and adhere to systems security policies and procedures to promote awareness of security issues among users and ensuring sound security principles are adhered to.

Specialized Experience
Knowledge of, and skill in applying: methods for implementing, and disseminating IT security tools and procedures; IT security certification and accreditation requirements; and computer forensics principles sufficient to implement and coordinate activities designed to ensure, protect, and restore IT systems, services, and capabilities; monitor and evaluate systems' compliance with IT security requirements.
Knowledge of Network security devices, software, and automated virus protection management systems.
Knowledge of methods and practices for troubleshooting, recovering, adjusting, modifying, and improving IT systems to provide support that minimizes interruptions in customer’s ability to carry out the mission.
Knowledge of Local Area Network principles, PC’s, peripheral devices, printers, scanners, local Commercial Off The Shelf hardware/software, and current Army operating systems standards to ensure accurate and prompt response to various user trouble calls.
Skill in working with others to accomplish complex projects/programs.
Skill in applying innovative approaches to resolve unusual/difficult issues significantly impacting important policies or programs.
Skill in effectively accomplishing multiple project/program goals within established guidelines.
Ability to exercise flexibility, adaptability, and decisiveness appropriately.
