This is a Direct Hire (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Domestic Defense Industrial Base (DIB) & Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) in DoD to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.

Job Responsibilities

 

Serves as a Senior Computer Scientist supporting the Office of Technology Development (OTD) in applying advanced Operations Research (OR) and Data  Science techniques to develop software solutions for Army Test Instrumentation and Systems Under Test (SUT). This role includes managing software projects, leading development teams, and providing expert analysis to Army leadership. The position involves project management, model development, programming, and collaboration with senior decision-makers.

 

Duties:

 

  • Lead development of integrated software solutions using C#, Java, VBA, SQL, and Python.

  • Develop and validate algorithms for complex models supporting Army decision-making.

  • Automate data acquisition, storage, and processing for Army test operations.

  • Plan, coordinate, and manage software development projects.

  • Organize and guide project teams and coordinate with cross-functional staff.

  • Provide expert advice on advanced technology initiatives to the CTO and senior leadership.

  • Implement best practices in Development, Security, and Operations (DevSecOps).

  • Stay current with software engineering techniques, programming, and security standards

Job Qualification

 
U.S. Citizens who meet the minimum qualification requirements for Computer Scientist (1550)
 
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
 
Basic Requirement for Computer Scientist (1550):
 
Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in computer science or bachelor's degree (or higher degree) with 30 semester hours in a combination of mathematics, statistics, and computer science. At least 15 of the 30 semester hours must have included any combination of statistics and mathematics that included differential and integral calculus. 1550 Basic Requirement
 

Specialized Experience

 
To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this job. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GG/GS-12).
 
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--NO substitution of education for experience is permitted.
 
Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-12).
