PLACE OF WORK: 

Dugway Proving Ground is seeking applicants with a background in airfield management for the Airfield Manager position located in the Range and Airfield Operations Branch in the Operations Division for Dugway Proving Ground, UT. Dugway Proving Ground is approximately 50 minutes from Tooele, Utah, and 90-minute drive from Salt Lake City, Utah. Job Responsibilities

  • Serves as the Airfield Manager responsible for managing airfield facilities in support of Dugway Proving Ground.
  • Plans airfield operations to include areas such as flight dispatch, flight validation, airfield facilities, and equipment management.
  • Execute the Dugway Proving Ground aviation safety program as the Airfield Safety Officer.
  • Serves as manager for all airspace activities for the command.

Specialized Experience

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience for the GS-12: In order to be found qualified, your resume must reflect one year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Establishing procedures for airfield management and flight services ensuring that flying mission or flight safety is not compromised; AND 2) Provide guidance and coordination in emergency situations on the airfield. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).

Conditions of Employment

  • Position requires applicant to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
  • You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
  • Direct deposit of pay is required.
  • Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
  • Salary includes applicable locality pay or Local Market Supplement.
  • One-year probationary period may be required.
  • Position requires up to 10% TDY/Business Travel.
  • Position requires a pre-employment and annual physical.
  • Position is requires working around equipment that generates noise, vibration, and heat.
  • Position requires the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Position has been designated “mission essential”. In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations, you will be required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission needs. 
  • Position is subject to initial and random drug testing.
  • Commensurate with mission requirements, you be required to work overtime and other than normal duty hours which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays. Call back and emergency duty are occasional requirements of this position.
  • This is a term position, NTE 5 years, may be made permanent without further competition. 
  • This is an obligated position. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights or entitlement based on active military service, recovery from a compensable injury, or return rights based on an overseas tour.
