Job Summary
The United States Army Test and Evaluation Command is posting this advertisement to fill a current vacancy. The chosen candidate will serve as a Mechanical Engineer (Test Officer) within the Combat & Automotive Systems Division, within the Yuma Test Center in Yuma, AZ. A selection will be made soon after the closing date. Selection is permanent and will be made at the GS-09, GS-11, or NH-03 grade level, with full potential to NH-03.
*There is no immediate change in pay for those reassigned within the NH-03 pay band.
Job Responsibilities
As a Mechanical Engineer (Test Officer), you will:
- Plan, design, coordinate, execute, monitor, evaluate, and report test and evaluation of a variety of combat vehicles, tactical vehicles, ammunition, and weapon systems. Systems tested are characterized by their complexity and involve evaluation of the performance of and interaction among the various subsystems such as fire control/gun stabilization systems, target acquisition subsystems, communication systems, ammunition, and vehicle interfaces. Armament Systems and associated combat vehicles tested are complex in design and operational characteristics and require the application of novel or unique testing approaches due to the lack of adequate testing precedents, facilities, instrumentation, and test procedures.
- Under direction overseen by a Team Leader, receive overall assignments, review design specifications, and determine material needs, instrumentation required, duration of the test, safety and security measures required, number of samples required, personnel required, and methods and procedures required to effectively determine the operational capabilities of the systems being tested.
- Oversee the conduct of assigned tests, and personally observe test conduct as required. Exercise technical direction over technical test support in the actual conduct of tests in the field, or under simulated conditions. Make assignments, review work, and provide instructions to such personnel relating to their functions with respect to the test project. Plan schedules for tests and coordinates support requirements with test scheduling office and supporting organizational elements.
- Perform the full range of tests assigned to the division including; preparation of detailed test plan;arranging for necessary equipment, instrumentation, and personnel to conduct the test; directing technical and support employees performing tests; coordinating with other Directorate elements to gather and analyze data produced during tests; monitoring test operations; preparing test reports; and making recommendations, e.g., design changes, changes in test procedures, changes in instrumentation and faculties, to higher headquarters, contractors, material development, based upon test results.

Conditions of Employment
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
- 5% Temporary Duty Travel is a requirement.
- This is an Army Acquisition, Logistics and Technology Workforce position. Selectee must meet position requirements for Test & Evaluation Certification within 60 months of entrance on duty.
