Job Summary

The United States Army Test and Evaluation Command is posting this advertisement for the subject position above under the Major Range and Test Facilities Base (MRTFB) Direct-Hire Authority. The chosen candidate will serve as an Engineering Technician supporting the Artic Regions Test Center (ARTC) in the Test Support Division, Ft. Greely, AK*.  Selection of this position will be made at the GS-11 grade level.

*Alaska (other) receives an additional 3.21% COLA that will be added to the final salary.

About the Location:

Fort Greely is in the Delta Junction commuting area; fishing, hunting, camping, skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, dog sledding, and views of the Northern Lights; bears, moose and caribou; located 95 miles south of Fairbanks. Winter temps of 8 to minus 19°F with extreme lows of minus 30 plus; summer temps 70s/80s and 21 hours of daylight.

Job Responsibilities

As an Engineering Technician you will:

  • Serves as the organizational specialist on application of Computer Aided Manufacturing/Computer Numerically Controlled (CAM/CNC) methods and processes in the production of complex test components. Completed work includes standard and proto-type products for combat vehicles, assemblies, and other defense items.
  • Applies principles of integrated CAD/CAM processes in preparing programs for a variety of CNC Machines.
  • Analyzes engineering drawings to determine the feasibility of fabricating a part entirely or partially.
  • Sketches tool designs or determines the specifications for special tools to be utilized, procured, or produced.
  • Prepares drawings and operator instructions showing machine and tool holder setup and providing information which will be used to change cutters, to reposition table or work, and to check operations while the machine is in motion to prevent obvious errors in cutting. 
  • Performs metal fabrication with a variety of forming, bending, and cutting equipment to produce needed test items and products.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Required to obtain/maintain a government motor vehicle license.
  • Required to obtain and maintain Overhead Crane and Material Handling Equipment (MHE) certifications.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Class A CDL, with tanker, and doubles endorsement, for fuel, water and heavy transport incorporating jeeps and dollies.
  • Requires lifting of light to moderately heavy items weighing less than 50 pounds (23 kilograms).
  • This is a drug and alcohol testing designated position and subject to random drug and alcohol testing on an unannounced basis under the Expanded Army Drug-Free Federal Workplace Civilian Drug Testing Program.
  • Pre-employment and annual Physical Exam are required for this position

    "Working Conditions: Performance of duties includes extended periods of outdoor work in extreme natural COLD, TROPIC, and DESERT environments. Work takes place at remote/isolated locations in temperatures ranging from -70°F to 140°F and includes high winds, high humidity, torrential rain, fog, snow, ice, blizzard conditions, and dust/sandstorms. Exposure to potentially harmful plants, animals, and insects which occur naturally in these environments is possible."
