Job Summary

This Quality Assurance Specialist (Aircraft) position is located at Redstone Test Center (RTC), Aviation Flight Test Directorate in Redstone Arsenal, Alabama.
 
U.S. Army Redstone Test Center (RTC) participates in an alternate personnel system known as the Acquisition Demonstration Project, AcqDemo. Among other features, AcqDemo replaces GS grade levels with occupational families and pay bands.

The NH-02 band is equal to the GS-07 step 1 through GS-11 step 10. This position is subject to the NH-02 Non-Supervisory Analyst V control point of the ATEC Control Point Policy at $89,222 per year with locality.
 

Job Responsibilities

Performs quality control inspections of experimental test, prototype, standard and nonstandard fixed and rotary wing aircraft and tests to ensure contractor's repair and maintenance of rotary and fixed-wing aircraft systems are in accordance with contract and regulatory specifications. Examines total aircraft and equipment items, components, accessories, and controls for acceptability and suitability of repairs, replacements, modification, installations, applications, and operations. Performs technical inspections of assemblies such as transmissions, drive units, gear boxes, engines, propellers, rotor heads and blades, pumps, servomotors, flight instrumentation, and auxiliary power systems to assure propriety of overhaul, repair, maintenance, and compatibility and adequacy of functions. Observes shop repairs, operational tests and inspection functions for approved methods, acceptable standards, and compliance with directives. Reviews aircraft operation, maintenance, and supply records and reports to determine, or verify basis for occurrences or trends of malfunctions, maintenance and repair malfunctions, inefficiencies of supply/repair actions, and adequacy of record keeping. Inspects contractor equipment, facilities, and work areas to ensure compliance with safety practices. Represents the Maintenance Office as a member of the Airworthiness Review committee to review the quality assurance of all aircraft test related modifications and to ensure that they are completed in accordance with the engineering design drawings and airworthiness release.

Job Qualification

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.
 
General Experience: Three years progressively responsible experience, 1 year of which was equivalent to at least the GS-04/NH-01 grade level/pay band, which includes: 1) Conduct quality control on maintenance conducted on rotary or fixed wing aircraft; AND 2) Document inspection findings in order to advise of required changes. This definition of general experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04/NH-01).

Education: Four year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with a major study in quality assurance, statistics, mathematics, production management, industrial management, computer science, engineering, engineering technology, physical sciences, textiles, or other fields related to the position.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 36. Then divide your total number of completed undergraduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 120. Add the two percentages.
Selective Placement Factors: Applicants will need to meet the Selective Placement Factors at the time of the application process. Applicants will need to submit copy of their certificate(s) along with the application. Failure to provide the certificate(s) will result in an ineligible rating.
NH-02 Level Position: This position requires a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe & Power plant license. This is required for the NH-02 level. Specialized Experience
