Job Responsibilities

    • This is an Entry Level Position or Full Performance Position within the U.S. Army Test and Evlaution Command at White Sands Missile Range.  This position is full-time with work assignments, training, and self-development as you progress from the entry level to the full performance position.  Selection of the positions will be made at either the GS 05, 06, 07, 08, 09, 10, or 11 grade level. Promotion Potential is a GS-11. Upon reaching GS-11, you will be converted to AcqDemo by Reassignment to NJ-0856-03.  Or, recruitment will be at the full performance NJ-0856-03.

Duties for this position include but are not limited to the following:

Under the general direction of a higher-graded technician or engineer, installs electro-optic, infra-red, communications, radiometric, and other equipment for Test and Evaluation (T&E) field activities. Higher-grade technicians establish procedures or general instructions for these activities. Routes, digital, video and RF signals; and checks out equipment prior to conduct of field test. Independently conducts some tests which are covered by established procedures and precedents. Sets up remote control vans by obtaining and checking out instrumentation in accordance with general instructions provided by higher-grade technician Records and collects data for routine tests independently in accordance with established procedures. Maintains/repairs power supplies, remote sensing, and other equipment of comparable complexity using well-documented procedures and standard test equipment.

Assists senior technician in a variety of routine tasks in support of test operations, maintenance, and repair, and/or development work such as installing hardware and instrumentation. Participates in equipment setup, signal routing, and connecting cables in support of test operations, performing equipment maintenance tasks covered by detailed written procedures and not requiring trouble-shooting ability. Constructs and packages simple devices and sub-units of equipment such as remote sensing devices in support of the development activities of higher-graded technicians. Also receives training in the more complicated aspects of test set-up and equipment maintenance and development.

Performs various support tasks such as checking out and turning in vehicles, supplies and equipment. Performs preventive maintenance checks on vehicles and keeps them fueled and ready for use.

Attends necessary training to obtain required licenses and certifications.

Specialized Experience for the GS-06 level: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience from the duties section which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) applying basic engineering skills and knowledge to perform assigned work; and 2) planning and accomplishing conventional engineering assignments. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Specialized Experience for the GS-07 level: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience from the duties section which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) assisting in the assembling and maintenance of electronic devices, equipment or systems using established criteria or specifications; and 2) preparing technical reports on phases of the equipment operation, identifying and elaborating on any deficiencies, failures and recurring malfunctions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Specialized Experience for the GS-08 level: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience from the duties section which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) troubleshoot, maintain and adapt/modify instrumentation/electronic systems; 2) preparing technical reports on phases of the equipment operation, identifying and elaborating on any deficiencies, failures and recurring malfunctions. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Specialized Experience for the GS-09 level: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience from the duties section which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) conducting routine maintenance, trouble-shooting, installation, operation, calibration, and testing of all electronic and electro-mechanical, (standard and non-standard) equipment with limited oversight by senior technicians; and 2) prepare detailed technical reports on all phases of the equipment operation in order to report any conditions or circumstances, which would tend to cause the defect or malfunction. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08).

Specialized Experience for the GS-10 level: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience from the duties section which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) assisting in installing, operating, calibrating, and maintaining a wide range of electronic, electro-mechanical, data acquisition, communications equipment or computer systems; and 2) contributing to the development of instructions, guidelines and specifications during the modification and testing of new ancillary or major systems replacement equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09)

Specialized Experience for the GS-11 level: To qualify based on your experience, your resume must describe at least one year of experience from the duties section which prepared you to do the work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as: 1) operating complex electronic data collection instrumentation systems insuring optimum performance of the overall system; and 2) developing instructions, guidelines and specifications during the modification and testing of new ancillary or major systems replacement equipment. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-10).

Position requires an uncommon tour duty that requires the incumbent to work various hours throughout a day and may change from day to day. Work schedule will be adjusted to meet mission requirements.

May be required to obtain and maintain a Commercial driver’s license (CDL)based on organizational assignment.
