Job Summary

This is an open continuous announcement. The initial cut-off date for referral is 12 May 2021, and additional referral lists will be created bi-weekly until all vacancies are filled. 

Selectee will serves as an engineer for a major U.S. Army test organization responsible for conducting flight tests on a wide variety of fixed and rotary-wing aircrafts and aviation systems, aviation life support equipment, aircraft weapon and targeting systems, avionics, countermeasures, and flight simulation systems. This includes, but is not limited to, the area of developmental aviation flight test, specialized flight telemetry, structural fatigue, testing, aviation parts failure analysis, subsystem testing, dynamic testing, and hardware-in-the- loop testing.

 

ABOUT THE POSITION: 

This position is located at the U.S. Army Test & Evaluation Command, U.S. Army Redstone Test Center, Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. The NH-03 band is equal to the GS-12 step 1 through GS-13 step 10. This position is subject to the NH-03 Non-Supervisory Professional / Evaluator / Tester / Analyst control point of the ATEC Control Point Policy at $123,816.00 per year. (Includes locality pay)

Job Responsibilities

  • • Plans and executes a myriad of aviation systems tests, covering the full spectrum of the aeronautical, mechanical, electronics, computer engineering, systems, and human factors engineering disciplines.
    • Serves as a flight test engineer onboard aircraft or via telemetry during flight of Army aircraft systems when testing mechanical, electrical and aeronautical advanced flight controls, avionics, navigation, visionics, weapons, radar, and aircraft survivability systems to determine operation of these systems under various flight conditions.

    • Serves as a technical and subject matter expert for consultations with materiel developers and manufacturers on matters dealing with a variety of mechanical, electrical, and aeronautical components related to advanced flight controls, avionics, navigation, visionics, weapons, radar, and aircraft survivability systems for military rotorcraft-and fixed-wing manned and/or unmanned aircraft systems.

    • Provides engineering analysis of equipment deficiencies and determines if the equipment functions according to the manufacturers' statements and/or government specifications and assesses suitability for military needs and missions.

To qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Your resume must describe at least one year of experience which prepared you to do the work in this position.  Must have an engineering degree from an Accredited Board for Engineering institution.

Specialized Experience:  One year specialized experience which includes: experience in multidisciplinary engineering principles; concepts and practices with emphasis on testing of components and assemblies of weapon systems and subsystems; knowledge of testing techniques and documentation; design setup and operation of special electro-mechanical test fixtures used to gather test data on aviation and missile systems; and skill to plan, design, execute, and report on complex test projects missile, aviation, and sensor systems.  This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service NH-02 (GS-11).

You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency (knowledge, skills, abilities) in the following areas: 
• Skill in planning, execution, and reporting of complex test projects
• Ability to coordinate testing of aviation & weapon systems
• Skill in problem solving
• Ability to communicate

 4.  Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance. 

 5.  May be required to serve a 2-year probationary period. 

 6.  This position is subject to acquisition certification. Employee must obtain and maintain required Acquisition Certification Level III in Test and Evaluation in 24 months. 

 7.  This is a Career Program (CP) 16 position.
